East Lake Community Church – Crossroads Promo

East Lake Community Church came to me with an idea for a new sermon series. We shot a series of 5 different interviews with various members of the church who had come to a crossroads in their life and discussed how they handled it. We wanted to create an introduction to the series to promote it within the church as well as start off each interview.

The video was shot over a short period of time one morning using a Columbia actor friend of mine. Shot using the HVX200 and Redrock kit. Lenses used: Nikon 50mm and 105mm.

Sandhills Community Church – Youth Ministry

Yet another video we shot for the new Church building. This one was created to present the future needs of the Youth Group as they moved into a new building. Resident youth pastor Chris Leadly took the lead on this one and made for a very passionate on screen talent. We only had about an hour to write and shoot this, so considering the time I think it worked nicely!

Shoot using the HVX200. Dolly was an on location wheelbarrow filled with McDonalds bags.

Sandhills Community Church – Changin' Dirties

A few years ago Sandhills Community Church hired me to create a video for their Father’s Day service. The video was a big hit and is still fondly remembered to this day. Not wanting to be gender biased, this year they brought me back in to create a parody video of “Riddin’ Dirty” for the Mothers Day service. We cast two church characters that have appeared in past projects. Lyrics were then written and recorded by Jac Mandel, the resident Church worship pastor. A few shoots later we had this!

Shot on the HVX200 using the Red Rock Micro. Lenses used: Nikon 105mm and 50mm.

Sandhills Community Church – Church History

Sandhills Community Chruch recently finished construction on their very first building as a church. To keep things in perspective for the congregation, they wanted to create a short video discussion the history of the church and how things will change after moving in. Being a very lighthearted church, we decided on a parody style of the old 1940’s World War 2 documentaries.

Using the great site Archive.org, we were able to find an old song from the early 1900’s to set the mood. The voiceover work was then cut by yours truly.

Sailing the Nockamixion

We took my father’s Com-Pac 19′, the Patricia Lee, out for a sail on Lake Nockamixon. This is some footage I shot as we sailed along. Shot handheld on the HVX-200. Hoping to make a second trip this next summer to shoot a sequel with my new Canon 7D.

The Offer

There’s really no point to this other than I wanted to introduce my new bird as well as play with the 7D. Really, do you need any better reason to tell a story?

The dolly was a homemade dolly – in desperate need of work, but wasn’t bad for a first run. Had some sticking problems that ruined a few shots I couldn’t use. Lighting was a single LTM pepper shooting down onto the floor. I don’t recall the wattage. I wanted a harsh light to give the bird a more sinister feel and to replicate the hard lines in The Godfather. Lens was the basic 7D kit lens – 28-135mm/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Not a bad basic lens overall.

There are a few nods to “The Godfather” in the short. See if you can spot them.
